Cook this one up and I guarantee you will have people all over the house coming to check what you’re up to in the kitchen. The combination of roasting garlic and lemon makes for an incredible aroma. The taste is even better! The Greek style chicken makes for perfect chicken gyros on pita with red onion or also as a healthy salad topping.

Cooking notes

For this recipe you will need:

  • 1-1.5 lbs chicken breasts
  • 3/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 4 garlic cloves crushed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground oregano, Greek preferably
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Mix the yogurt, olive oil, lemon juice, oregano, garlic, salt and pepper in a bowl – then add to a gallon sized freezer bag. Cut the chicken into relatively thick slices and add to a gallon freezer bag. Seal the bag and work the mixture over the chicken.

Refrigerate for at least 12 hours, and upto 24. I like to take the chicken out a few times during that period and work it some more to make sure the marinade is evenly mixed and distributed.

When it comes to cooking the chicken I usually just dump the whole thing into the fryer. I don’t usually strain off too much yogurt, it tends to cook away naturally during cooking.

The chicken should go over 165F after about 15 minutes, I like to cook a little longer to achieve a nice char though – about 18 minutes in total.

Please ensure your food is always thoroughly cooked. We recommend investing in a reliable kitchen thermometer. Check out the affordable selection on Amazon - there's something at every price point.
