How to make avocado fries with an air fryer

First you’ll need to prepare your avocado fries, see notes below. With the prepared fries…

  1. Preheat air fryer to 400F
  2. Cook for six minutes at 400F
  3. Turn fries carefully after four minutes
  4. Season with salt after cooking

This recipe is based of using the COSORI Air Fryer (5.8QT model, affiliate link).

Avocado fries are a great low carb side dish. The panko crust has much less carbohydrates than a whopping pile of French fries – and of course, avocados are packed with heart heathly fats.

Avocado fry prep notes

To prepare your avocado fries you’ll want to work quickly. Once you cut your avocados open they’ll brown quickly. With that in mind you’ll want to prep your work area first, and also have your air fryer preheating while you work. It shouldn’t take more than five minutes to turn one avocado into neatly breaded avocado fries.

Start by laying out a plate with flour, a bowl with beaten egg, a plate with panko breadcrumbs, and lastly, a plate for the final product.

Cut the avocado through lengthwise around the center into two halves. Remove the pit carefully with a spoon and then carefully scoop out the fruit from both halves. Cut each into long fry-ish shapes. Don’t make the fries too small, the avocado is quite delicate, and if made too small will just turn to mush.

Working quickly…coat each avocado fry with flour, dip in egg then roll in panko coating. Place on the final plate and repeat till all are covered. Finally spray liberally on all sides with cooking spray. Hey presto, avocado fries ready for the fryer!

Optional extras: before adding the flour I sometimes like to coat with a little garlic powder and/or hot chilli powder. It just depends what flavor profile I’m craving at the time!
