How to make Ore-Ida crinkle cut fries in the air fryer

  1. Preheat air fryer
  2. Empty half a bag of fries into air fryer
  3. Keep fries to a single layer as best as possible
  4. Set temperature to 400F and set timer for 10 minutes
  5. Shake basket a couple times during cooking

We used the COSORI to air fry this (affiliate link, we get a fee), always check your food with a good kitchen thermometer.

The above guidelines should result in well cooked crisp fries. If you like a slightly softer fry, you should aim for around 8 minutes cooking time. Extra crisp fries will need about 12 minutes. I like to shake the fries a couple times to ensure even cooking, especially if I’ve added more than a single layer to the fryer.

Most importantly – you don’t need to add any oil or oil spray to these fries at all. The fries have plenty of oil right out of the bag.

Here’s the results from 12 minutes cooking time and about half a bag of the Ore-Ida fries:

And once you have a plate of golden and crisp French fries, there’s only one course if action in my book – load em up! Here’s an example topped with MorningStar Farms grillers crumbleres (seasoned in Tajinn), home made pico de gallo, diced and seasoned avocado and a little home made salsa too!

In the above dish, I’ve used one of my favorite seasonings to bring the fries to live. I use a liberal sprinkling of Tajin on the fries adding a citrusy/spicy/salty blast. It’s almost like adding malt vinegar with kick, but without making the fries soggy. Well – until you load them up with home made beef chili like I have above!

Or…for my veggie fries, another idea – MorningStar beef crumbles for a meat free loaded fry. I’ve then added home made pico, home made guac and home made restaurant style salsa.

  1. The insides are to mushy, I have tried different times in the air fryer to minimize this problem with negative results. Is there a secret to getting the inside done or is this just the way the fries are made to be?
    Thanks

    1. Thats definitely a feature of the product I’d say. If you’ve ended up with a piping hot fry, with steam erupting, it’s done. I do agree the interior is quite soft, I actually like this in this fry, but I can see how that reformed potato texture might not be for some.

    2. You may need to increase the temp on the air fryer and change the cook time. I would suggest playing around with different time settings using a few fries at a time to see which one comes out the best. Doesn’t hurt to try. Good luck!

    1. I’ve tweaked this a little bit Chris. I do agree that you can get very enjoyable fries at 8mins, though I do like the 400F temp. Cooking times do increase the more fries you add to the fryer too.

  2. Half a bag??? What SIZE bag? POOR INSTRUCTIONS!!!
I bought an 8 pound bag at BJ’s & I’m NOT putting 4 pounds in my air fryer for ONE MEAL or EVER!!!
From the picture I FINALLY spotted, it appears to be a 2 pound bag.
    So… I’m guessing we’re supposed to cook 1 pound at a time???

    1. All the recipes are made in mind with cooking a single layer of the product, and not overloading the basket. If you do increase the amount of food in the fryer, then you need to increase the cooking time commensurately.
